Through the School's domestic
practica program, students are able to
work with our partnering health organizations
and government agencies located
in New York and around the country,
gaining valuable fi rsthand experience
as they pursue their studies.
? During her summer practicum,
Health Policy and Management student
Sheila Anane, MPH '07, worked as
an administrative intern at NewYork-
Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH), helping
to support and implement a patientcentered
care delivery model. As the
program grew, Sheila was able to turn
her practicum into a longer-term
position serving as a liaison between
outside consultants and the NYPH
leadership team.
? Stephanie Lykes, a student in the
Department of Population and Family
Health, completed her summer practicum
at the Young Men's Clinic, a
service program operated jointly by
the School's Center for Community
Health and Education and the NewYork-
Presbyterian Hospital Ambulatory Care
Network. While there, Stephanie helped
conduct a two-tiered qualitative study to
determine how African-American men
who use the clinic feel about receiving
care in a predominantly Hispanic setting.
" Through the Mothers & Newborns Study, we have shown
that the combined effect of exposures to multiple pollutants
is damaging to a developing fetus. These fi ndings can be a
powerful tool to effect policy changes.?
