as alumni.
The Offi ce of Career Services hosts a
vast array of career events for students,
providing the opportunity for them to
meet with recruiters from key employment
sectors. Many graduates pursue
careers at health agencies, academic and
research institutions, and nonprofi t
organizations, while other graduates seek
careers at consulting fi rms, pharmaceutical
companies, and other for-profi t
companies.
Employers based in the New York
metropolitan area, across the country,
and around the world recruit Mailman
School graduates to join their ranks.
Adam Sorensen, MPH '03, a
manager with Deloitte Consulting LLP,
returns to the Mailman School each year
to recruit graduates for his fi rm. Consultants
in the healthcare industry work
closely with executives, clinicians, technology
support, and other staff to meet
the goals of various clients. Projects range
from fi nancial analysis and strategic

-Tanya Cobbs Leslie, Assistant Dean for Career Services
the needs of students interested in
learning not only about public health,
but also about the culture and business of
healthcare. "Classes on health economics
and those focusing on managed care and
policy help graduates to understand the
market forces that dictate our clients'
needs and the decisions they make. This
knowledge is essential for all of our
projects.?
Alan Silverman, manager of the UN
Learning Strategy Program at UNAIDS,
recruited Mailman graduates to assist with
the rollout of the program. Says Mr.
Silverman of the experience, "I was so
impressed with the graduates' level of
public health knowledge and their
writing, presentation, and organizational
skills that UNAIDS is now collaborating
with the School's Offi ce of Career
Services and the Global Health track to
implement the fi rst UNAIDS internship
program in our offi ces worldwide.?
In addition to being well prepared to
enter the public health workforce,
Mailman graduates are also positioned
for acceptance into other graduate and

graduates defer employment to pursue
additional advanced degrees in public
health, medicine, social and behavioral
sciences, business, and law with the goal
of a future career that is informed by a
public health perspective.
